Baguio student-biologist set to represent PH in Biology Olympiad in Kazakhstan

Baguio City, Philippines – From a thousand of students in the Philippines, a student-biologist in Baguio City was chosen to be one of the Philippine representatives in the International Biology Olympiad in Kazakhstan.

 

International Biology Olympiad or IBO is the world’s premier biology competition for secondary school students. It brings student-scientists together to challenge and cultivate their talents and to promote their future careers as scientists.


This year’s IBO will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan in July with 1,000 expected participants from more than 80 countries.


The Philippines will be sending four students to the competition, and one of them is Maria Angela Yabut, a grade 12 student of the Philippine Science High School – Cordillera campus.

 

She secured the spot after earning a place in the Top 5 of this year’s Philippine Biology Olympiad held at Ateneo de Manila University on March 15 – 17.

 

According to PSHS – Cordillera, Yabut made it to the list of top 55 finalists first, then she advanced to top 20, and then to top 5 which earned her a place to the IBO.

 

Other Pisay Cordillera student-biologists who made it in the Top 55 in the Philippine Biology Olympiad is Juliene Nathalia Barcellano, grade 10 and Joe Mark Aglolo, Grade 12.
