Bauko, Mt. Province re-opens tourism industry for vaccinated visitors

Updated: Jan 4, 2022

Bauko, Mt. Province – Aside from Sagada, Bauko town in Mt. Province has re-opened its tourism industry for vaccinated tourists to revitalize its heavily affected economy.

Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation reported Monday, December 20, 2021, that the local government of Bauko decided for the re-opening to vaccinated tourists from different areas in the country but restrictions will be imposed for those individuals coming from high risk-areas like Metro Manila.

According to its local executive, Mayor Abraham Akilit, those individuals coming from said areas are required to present negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test results within 72 hours in border checkpoints.

Akilit reasoned out that the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in his jurisdiction are declining, thus the implementation of the gradual re-opening, considering that the tourism industry is a major ‘economic driver’ of the locality.

He added that with the re-opening, stakeholders will now be given the chance to recover from their losses as inflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic globally.

Bauko, just like other municipalities in Cordillera, as recalled, has closed its borders for tourists during the emergence of the COVID-19 virus.

The town, as a tourist destination, offers scenic spots, including towering and majestic mountains, eco-park, natural trekking destinations, scenic viewpoints, waterfalls, and rice terraces.

Aside from tourist spots, Bauko also offers delicious local foods and delicacies for visitors frequenting the area.

In connection, Sagada, another town in Mt. Province, has also recently opened its tourism industry for vaccinated tourists, particularly individuals aged 18 to 65, requiring visitors to bring personal or private vehicles when visiting the town.

Prior to entry, visitors are also required to register through the ‘UMALI KAYO’ (Welcome) online registration accessed through https://umali-kayo.sagada.gov.ph which is open from 8 AM to 4 PM daily.
