Tabuk City, Kalinga – Aspiring fisheries professionals in the Cordillera now have the opportunity to pursue their studies through a government scholarship program, as the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources–Cordillera (BFAR-CAR) has opened applications for its Fisheries Scholarship Program (FSP) for School Year 2027–2031.

The application period officially opened on March 2 and will run until July 31, 2026.

According to BFAR-Kalinga Provincial Fishery Officer Joyce Ducyogen, the agency is offering a total of 26 scholarship slots for qualified and deserving students in the region who wish to pursue a four-year Bachelor of Science in Fisheries degree.

Of the total slots, 20 are allocated for children of fisherfolk, three are intended for children of fisheries industry leaders, and three are reserved for students belonging to Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs).

The FSP aims to help cover the educational expenses of beneficiaries while developing competent and skilled professionals who can contribute to the fisheries sector in the region.

As part of the selection process, applicants are required to undergo a qualifying examination scheduled on October 10, 2026. The testing center will be announced at a later date.

Interested applicants may download the application forms and access more details through this official link: https://bit.ly/FSPForms_RegionCAR

For further inquiries, applicants may contact Regional FSP coordinators Irene Tanyag and Clarice Massagan at 0956 836 3119.

BFAR-CAR is encouraging students across the region to apply and take advantage of this opportunity.

In Kalinga, applicants may visit the BFAR Provincial Office located at Purok 6, Bulanao, Tabuk City.

It can be recalled that two iKalinga youth, Ria Ongat Labbutan and Sunshine Ongat Iwad, successfully completed their studies and are now licensed fisheries professionals through the program. The two cousins from Rizal passed the Licensure Examination for Fisheries Professionals in October 2025.
