Tadian, Mt Province – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources- Cordillera Administrative Region (BFAR-CAR) through the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) reported that the half million pesos worth of twin tank village type hatchery project is now functional, according to the agency.

This twin tank hatchery is used to spawn fish.

The project was inaugurated on December 9, 2020 and was awarded to the Tadian Farmers, Fisherfolk and Irrigators Association (TAFFIA) who were from the towns of Tadian and Bauko .

Other component of the project include tilapia breeders, hapa nets and additional fingerlings.

With this project, BFAR-CAR RD Lilibeth L. Signey is hoping that the recipient-organization will continue their unity, willingness and efforts to sustain the project and help in the improvement of fish production in the province.

Signey in the agency’s report mentioned that several hatcheries were put up in the province in the past years, but failed.

In a statement by Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr on PTV Cordillera last Thursday, he said he is hopeful for more projects like these ones to be implemented in the province.

According to the report, the fish hatchery project is a result of the concerted efforts of TAFFIA members through their willingness and determination to seek assistance from the Bureau’s Provincial Fisheries Office in Mountain Province.

TAFFIA Adviser Rex Allan Cadio said the collective efforts of the members of the association with the support of LGU-Tadian helped in the improvement of the hatchery including the fabrication of an additional fish tank, fishponds for more production, as well as building structures.
