Tabuk City, Kalinga – As the province joins the nation in commemorating the 128th Independence Day on June 12, Kalinga Board Member Julius “Glenn” Amla called on fellow iKalingas to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the country's heroes and continue working together to promote unity, peace, and progress.

In a message posted on his official Facebook page, Amla paid tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and unity of Filipinos who fought for the country's freedom, many of whom gave their lives for the nation's independence.

“Ngayong ika-12 ng Hunyo, ating ginugunita ang katapangan, sakripisyo, at pagkakaisa ng mga Pilipinong lumaban para sa ating kalayaan (This June 12th, we commemorate the courage, sacrifice, and unity of the Filipinos who fought for our freedom),” he wrote.

The provincial legislator said that the observance of Independence Day serves as a reminder of the struggles endured by past generations to secure the freedoms and liberties that Filipinos enjoy today.

He further expressed hope that the spirit of independence would continue to inspire people to strengthen solidarity, help one another, and actively contribute to nation-building.

“Nawa’y magsilbing inspirasyon ang diwa ng Kalayaan upang patuloy tayong magkaisa, magtulungan, at maglingkod para sa mas maunlad at mapayapang bayan. (“May the spirit of Independence serve as an inspiration so that we continue to unite, cooperate, and serve for a more prosperous and peaceful nation),” he added.

This year’s Independence Day celebration carries the theme “Kalayaan 2026: Diwa sa Pagkakaisa at Paghilom ng Bayan,” highlighting the importance of unity as the country continues its efforts toward national development and healing.

The Philippines celebrates Independence Day every June 12 in commemoration of the declaration of the country's independence from Spanish colonial rule in 1898, a historic event led by Filipino revolutionary forces under General Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite.
