Body of missing passenger of capsized boat in Cagayan found

Aparri, Cagayan - The cadaver of a missing passenger from a boat that capsized on November 11 in the Cagayan River was recovered by authorities on Sunday, November 13, in Barangay Punta, Aparri.


The body of Erold Leste, 38, a resident of Paruddun Sur in Aparri, was first spotted by a fisherman in a floater of a fishing net before he was finally retrieved by the police maritime-Aparri.


Leste was the sole passenger that went missing when the motorboat they were riding capsized in the middle of the Cagayan River in Barangay Macanaya, Appari 8 p.m. of November 11.

It was said that Leste was intoxicated when the incident transpired. He was even wearing denim pants and a jacket that might have added up to his weight, resulting in his drowning.


The group was supposed to attend a relative’s wake in Barangay Punta.


The seven other passengers, including a 10-year-old child, were able to survive the incident as they swam to safety after realizing that their boat was already sinking. They are Rey Taguba, 23; Ljay Ocampo, 17; Ebo Persona 27, Jungie Paggabao 24; Fernando Leste ,36; Reynante Villanueva, 27; and Cassidy Leste, 10.
