Buguey, Cagayan serves 1 metric ton of crabs on first Crab Festival

Buguey, Cagayan – To kick off its first Crab Festival, the municipality of Buguey in Cagayan served on Saturday, October 29, one metric ton or 1,000 kilograms of crabs to all locals and participants of the event.


Dubbed as the Crab Capital of the North, Buguey is known for its bountiful harvest of crabs, especially in October, thus the celebration with the theme, “Taraon ken Pagsapulan Ti Kailian Patalgeden Mataginayon.”


Resolution to protect crab production


Mayor Licerio Antiporda III through Cagayan Provincial Information Office said they will soon craft a resolution, prohibiting the transport of crab outside the locality for five years. This, he said, is to improve crab production and maintain its title.

Oplan Cinderella


Alongside the Crab Festival was the launching of Oplan Cinderella or "Crab Industry Development Research Regulatory Extension and Livelihood Assistance" which intends to provide aid to the crab farmers in the area.


The mayor assured his continued assistance to the farmers to further boost the industry.
