COMELEC-Cordillera passes resolutions for safe Election Day in the region

Baguio City – Commission on Election-Cordillera or COMELEC-Cordillera has already submitted resolutions to the COMELEC En Banc ‘to ensure the strict the strict implementation of minimum public health standards and safety protocols against COVID–19 during the campaign and on election day itself.’


In the report of Philippine Information Agency CAR, it stated that the Commission on Election-Cordillera Regional Director Ederlino Tabilas said the purpose is to ensure observance pandemic protocols and restrictions while ensuring safe, fair, and credible polls.


Tabilas said the Comelec needs to amend the campaigning and voting rules and regulations to be able to deal with the situation.


He also asked all candidates vying for both for local and national positions to follow the scheduled campaign period, which the COMELEC set from February 8 to May 7 for national positions and from March 25 to May 7 for local positions.


Meanwhile, Department of the Interior and Local Government – Cordillera OIC Regional Director Araceli San Jose called on government officials and voters in the region ‘to work together in raising the bar of election in the country and help shape the political process and improve the quality of political discourse and debate for people to choose the right candidates to vote.’

San Jose said they have already conducted seminars with barangay officials regarding the disbandment of private armed groups in their respective localities during the campaign period and Election Day to safeguard voters from harm.


Police Regional Office – Cordillera Director for Operations Colonel Dawiguey Sibly said they are also in close coordination with the COMELEC and other law enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful and orderly election in the region.


Cordillera Region has 1,077,900 registered voters in 75 municipalities and two cities for the May 2022 National and Local election.
