Tabuk City, Kalinga – To provide skills and training opportunities for 156 yKalinga-recipients making them more employable, the Office of Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang funded a total of P2,532,555.80 for the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) Scholarship.

Mangaoang is a staunch advocate of empowerment and livelihood provision for individuals and groups.

It is expected that the project shall add to the positive changes in families, especially those who need to augment their income.

What is STEP Scholarship?

The STEP is a community-based specialty training program which addresses the specific skills needs of the communities and promotes employment, particularly through entrepreneurial, self-employment and service-oriented activities.

Training programs offered are generally short term or modular based on the Training Regulations promulgated by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries of the program had their general orientation earlier today, July 08, at Davidson Hotel, Bulanao, Tabuk City.

According to Gary Damian of the Office of the Congressman, the 50 trainees from the Mansaja-aw Eco-Farm will undergo training on raising organic hogs for 13 days.

Meanwhile, 40 individuals from the Business and Engineering School of Technology, Inc. (BEST) will be trained on bread making for 10 days; 33 from Ayuman Aggani Training and Assessment Center, Inc. on Animal Production (Poultry-Chicken) NC II for 32 days; 12 from Provintial Training Center – Kalinga on Electrical Installation and Maintenance NCII for 28 days; 11 from PTC-Kalinga on Carpentry NC II for 41 days; and 10 from PTC-Kalinga on Tile Setting NC II for 18 days.

Damian said most of the recipients are those who were not able to achieve a degree and of legal age. These, he added, are those who applied from the said office.

‘Be part of the fully skilled workers in the region’

During his talk, Mangaoang challenged the scholarship beneficiaries not to take the training for granted, instead do their best to be part of the fully skilled workers not only in the province but also in Cordillera region.

“Exclusive laeng kadagiti nagaget daytoy ket gapu ta amin kayo ket agpurpursige, commitment a ti opisina ti Congressman ken TESDA nga ipaay na amin ti tulong tapnu magun-od yu ken maragpat yu ti arapaap yu,” stressed the congressman.
