Tabuk City, Kalinga – House Bill 8202, which seeks for the proper installation and maintenance of overhead electric distribution and communication lines in the country recently passed Congress and is now in the Senate.

Representative Mark Go of Baguio City along with Rep. Geraldine Roman and Rep. Joy Tambunting principally authored said legislation.

When passed into law, electric, cable, and telecommunication companies shall implement periodic inspections; fix and bundle-up dangling overhead communication lines; remove unused overhead electric distribution and communication lines; and replace all unused, misplaced, damaged and rotten utility poles.

Additionally, the bill’s key provisions mandate local government units to ensure that public utility company in their area comply with the Act. Non-compliance would prompt the city or municipal engineer to withhold the grant or renewal of their licenses.

Moreover, there shall be a Monitoring and Service Team to conduct an immediate and necessary clean-up operation of these overhead electric distribution lines, cables, utility poles, equipment, and accessories.

“These dangling and “spaghetti” wires and cables that pose threat and danger to the public and create massive eyesores will finally be addressed by concerned government agencies and by holding companies installing these wires accountable,” states Congressman Go through his Official Facebook page this April 15.

“With this bill, the entire country can now hope to have an organized cabling system. We’re getting there.” he added.
