Baguio City, Philippines – Sworn law enforcement officers in Cordillera are on alert to ensure safety of teachers and students as school year 2023-2024 begins.

Extending a helping hand to the education department, policemen in the region led by Police Regional Director, PBGEN David Peredo Jr. were dispatched to the school campuses and roads near the academic institutions to ensure peace and order.

During the opening of classes on Tuesday, Peredo himself visited schools in Benguet where 200 cops were deployed. He was joined by Deputy Regional Director for Operations, PCOL Damian Olsim, Provincial Director of Benguet Police Provincial Office, and PLTCOL Denver Guzman, among other officers.

During his visit, he received reports on bullying and gang-related violence that some students experienced last school year. Since the incidents happened outside the school, Peredo said more police officers will be assigned near the school premises to secure students from such harm.

Likewise, the regional director made emphasis on the “Sumbong mo, Aksyon Agad” program of the PNP where one can call the hotlines and police will respond right away to any complaints or information they receive.

Unit heads were further directed to the establishment of Police Assistance Desks (PADs) near the entrance of school campuses, as well as the intensification of law enforcement activities at the transportation hubs and assistance of student pedestrians.

Meanwhile, Peredo encouraged learners to avoid engaging in vices and strive to do their best to succeed.
