Cordilleran machine fabricator turns unused metals into artworks

While most people dispose of old and unused vehicle parts, a man in Mountain Province turns these junks into ingenious artworks.

This skill is showcased by Darius Frias Jr., a machine fabricator from La Trinidad, Benguet, but currently residing in Sagada, Mountain Province. His works include making figures like a lion and a woman out of vehicle parts.

Frias, who most people call him “Junior”, was inspired to embrace the joy of making art from metallic odds and ends when he made a trophy out of them during a motorcycle challenge.

His fantastic skill allowed him to become a creator of artworks for government programs such as the Department of Science and Technology's Local Grants-in-Aid program.

Eventually, he became a beneficiary of the DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program, for which he received the equipment needed for his work.

Recently, Frias took part in the Mt. Province Department of Trade and Industry Craft Exposition, where he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to demonstrate his creative abilities.

“Mayat ta adda ti kastoy nga activity, first time ko gamin nga sumali, isunga salamat ta makita diay inaramid ko,” he said in his interview with the Philippine Information Agency - Mt. Province.

As for those who want to transact with him for artwork, he can be contacted through his cellphone number, 09066845914 or his Facebook account Junior Frias.
