Pasil ordinance requires couples to plant 5 tree seedlings before release of marriage license

Updated: Feb 16, 2022

Pasil, Kalinga – In support to its clean and green campaign, the local government of Pasil led by Mayor Alfredo ‘Chao-ig’ Malannag pushes for the measure requiring couples to plant at least five (5) trees before the issuance of their marriage license.

The ordinance is expected to help in the LGUs attempt to continue to instill environmental values to its communities and be recognized as cleanest and greenest barangays in the province.

Councilor Ronnie Bawalan was the proponent of the ‘Ordinance Requiring Applicants for Marriage License to Plant at least Five Fruit-Bearing/Non-Fruit Bearing Tree Seedlings as One Pre-requisite in the Issuance Thereof.’

According to Pasil LGU, the ordinance was explained to the community through the public hearing conducted on Wednesday, February 09, at Municipal Hall, Amdalao, Pasil.

During the public hearing, Bawalan stressed that the main aim of the local law is to maintain the status of some barangays in the municipality which were adjudged as the cleanest and greenest community in the entire province.

The proponent added that this is also for environmental protection.

Under the proposed ordinance, a certification from the barangay captain validating that the couple planted at least five trees shall be submitted to the Office of the Municipal Civil Registrar before issuing the marriage license.

Section 3 of the ordinance provides the couple shall look after the trees ‘to reap nature’s benefits.’
