‘COVID-19 deaths, mostly unvaxxed’- Baguio City Health Office

Updated: Nov 28, 2022

Baguio City, Philippines - A report by the City Health Services Office and the UP Baguio Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences said most of Coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths in Baguio City were those from the unvaccinated.

CHSO and UP Baguio, through the Public Information Office, showed 299 of the 397 Covid-19 related casualties from August 18 to January 21 were people who did not have the jab. The group explained this is equivalent to 4.12% fatality rate.

The same thing was observed in 79 severe cases recorded with 54 unvaccinated, while 3 unqualified to receive the vaccine.

Nevertheless, it was also reported that there are 82 fully vaccinated who died due to Covid-19.

The group however said that a mathematical computation of the city’s Covid-19 data thru UP-CMCS and the City Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the CHSO showed that fully vaccinated people have 252 times fewer chances of succumbing to the virus compared to the unvaccinated having 109 times more chances of dying when infected with Covid-19.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong stated that the data suggest that Covid-19 vaccination can prevent severe symptoms, hospitalization, and death due to the virus.

As of February 12, there is a total of 695, 116 vaccines administered in Baguio. Of the said number, 275,313 are fully vaccinated; 291,733 have received their first dose, and 84,042 individuals got their booster dose.
