DA grants P1.3M Agricultural Interventions to Cagayan Valley IPs

Gonzaga, Cagayan - The Department of Agriculture (DA)- Region II successfully granted P1,396,452 of Agricultural Interventions for the Indigenous People (IP) Agtas from Sitio Bagsang, Barangay Sta. Clara and Sitio Cavadeco, Barangay Cabiraoan through the "Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo" or 4Ks project on August 3, 2021.

Said government projects intend to develop Tribal Communities to empower and lift the country's IPs from poverty, especially those in the far-flung areas, through the provision of livelihood in the form of agriculture and fisheries-related economic activities.

The Agtas from the two barangays received 2 Carabaos with hauling implement, 200 native chicken, 200 Muscovy duck, 50 bags of Hybrid yellow corn seeds, 50 units of jabber planter, 36 bags of commercial poultry grower feeds, 248 bags of organic fertilizer, 180 inorganic fertilizer, 234 rambutan seedlings, 1500 mango seedlings, 600 cacao seedlings, 550 lanzones seedlings, 300 jackfruit seedlings, 250 mandarin seedlings, 84 lemon seedlings, 250 pummelo seedlings, 1330grams ampalaya seeds, 5.22 kgs squash seeds, 150 grams sweet pepper seeds, 8.75 kgs snap beans seeds, 450 grams tomato seeds, 15.12 kgs okra seeds, 650 grams eggplant seeds and 9 kgs pole sitao seeds.

Caloy Dela Cruz, Chieftain of Agtas Tribe at Sitio Cavadeco accepted the awards from DA.

Meanwhile, Chieftain Wilfredo Sibayan of Agtas Tribe in Sitio Bagsang said, “Agyaman kami iti DA ta saan dakami a maliplipatan kadagiti programa a pang-agrikultura. Dakkel ti maitulong dagitoy a proyekto para iti kasapulan ti pamilya nangruma ti taraon. Ti sibubukel a tribo ti Agtas ditoy a lugar ket sumuporta kadagita amin a programa ti DA.”

Gonzaga Municipal Agriculturist Ferdinand Baclig acknowledged the DA giving services to the government.

“Dito natin nakikita na nabibigyan din ng tulong ang ating mga kapatid na Agtas mula sa pamahalaan. Napakahalaga na tulungan natin sila upang makasabay din sa lipunan,” Baclig said.

Meantime, Municipal Mayor Hon. Marilyn S. Pentecostes, through the municipal representative, Don-Don Collado, has thanked the department for the 4Ks program since there is a big role for each and everyone to sustain the food supply in the country.

The program was also attended by the Barangay officials, the Action Officer of 4Ks project Paul Vincent G. Balao, officials of the municipality, and other DA RFO 02 officials.

The project will continuously launch in the region of Cagayan Valley at Sanchez Mira, Quirino, Quezon, and Nueva Vizcaya.
