Mt. Province, Philippines – The demise of Sadanga Mayor Gabino ‘Gabi’ P. Ganggangan is not only a loss to the people of Sadanga, but to the whole Mt. Province as well, stated Governor Bonifacio ‘Boni’ Lacwasan Jr.

Mayor Ganggangan died on Saturday, January 2, after collapsing in a wedding he attended in Barangay Guinaang, Bontoc, Mt. Province. The Provincial government confirmed this yesterday through a press release.

“According to one of his relatives, he was brought to the Bontoc General Hospital (BoGH) in an unconscious state at past 10 p.m. from Guinaang where he attended a wedding. Attempts to resuscitate him failed,” it posted.

The attending doctor declared him dead at around 11 p.m. due to cardiac arrest.

Ganggangan celebrated his 60th birthday last September 18, 2021. He is survived by his four children as his wife passed away more than a year ago.

The late mayor had been active in his campaign against the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA). His administration passed an ordinance declaring communist terrorist groups (CTGs) persona non grata in support of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

Ganggangan’s move to waive food packs from the national government in favor of the communities in dire need during the emergence of the Luzon-wide lockdown last April 2020 earned praises from all over the country.

These are just among the remarkable accomplishments of the late mayor. Officials from the region and national line agencies have taken to social media their tribute as they recalled their encounter with him.
