Dengue cases in Kalinga up by 343%

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Department of Health - Cordillera documented 2,984 dengue cases in the province in 2022, 343 percent higher than the cases recorded in 2021.


The data was revealed during the Kapehan sponsored by PIA-Cordillera on Tuesday, Jan. 10.


Of said number, four individuals died due to the disease.


In 2021, the province logged 681 cases with only one death case.


The cases in Kalinga have the second highest number among the provinces in the region, next to Benguet which documented a total of 4,698 cases.


Next to Kalinga is Baguio City with 2,954; Apayao with 1,785; Ifugao with 1,533; Mountain Province with 844; and Abra with 249.


The agency said 568 of these cases are from other provinces that were only accommodated in some health facilities in the region.

These numbers bring a total of 15,615 dengue cases in the region which is 196 percent higher than that of 5,270 cases recorded in 2021.


21 people succumbed to the disease in 2022 while 24 individuals died in 2021.


With the rise of dengue cases, DOH-Cordillera urged the public to be wary since dengue fever is not only prevalent during rainy days. A person with a low immune system may catch the disease anytime in the whole year round.
