Tabuk City, Kalinga – After a reported incident of "third parties or fixers" attempting to handle fund requests of barangays in exchange for money, the Department of Interior and Local Government - Cordillera cautioned local government units on Monday, July 18, to avoid transacting with such individuals.

The agency said they were informed of fixers asking for as high as P200,000 if fund request is granted by the concerned agency.

With this, DILG-CAR advised LGUs not to deal with individuals or groups posing as agents and personnel of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) volunteering to give assistance in order to expedite access to the Local Government Support Fund-Financial Assistance to LGUs and other national government funding in exchange for favors, commissions, or fees.

"To our LGUs and the public, let us all be cautious and vigilant of such schemes and avoid getting involved with these groups or giving monetary considerations to them as some are even posing as government officials," Regional Director Araceli San Jose said.

Instead of transacting with fixers, LGUs are told to direct their letter requests to the Office of the Secretary of DBM.

To further address the issue, City and Municipal Local Government Operations Officers were tasked by the regional director to communicate with the LGUs to prevent the recurrence of said incidents.

They are likewise told to report to proper authorities when they encounter fixers trying to persuade LGUs in their scheme.

Among projects covered by the LGU support fund are local roads, bridges, public markets, slaughterhouses, multi-purpose buildings/halls, multi-purpose pavements, drainage canals, sea wall/river wall, water system projects including level 1 stand-alone water points, evacuation centers, public parks, fish ports, and post-harvest facilities.
