DILG reminds police to behave

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Department of the Interior and Local Government reminds the police to remain composed at all times following the event on the killing of a mother and son by a police officer.


The shooter, Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca y Montales, 46 is presently assigned at Parañaque City Crime Laboratory and hails from paniqui Tarlac.


“We wish to remind all police officers to remain calm at all times, to control their emotions, and to conduct themselves in a manner befitting their position as agents of the law,” said DILG Secretary Eduardo Año.


The DILG said they will ensure that justice will be given to the Gregorio family and that administrative and criminal cases will be filed against the suspect.


“We do not and will never tolerate such acts and we will make sure that he will account for his crimes. I have likewise directed PNP Chief P/Gen Debold Sinas to extend assistance to the family of the victims at this time of bereavement,” the statement said.

Further, the DILG stressed that the incident is an isolated one and that the majority of the Philippine National Police perform their duty to protect and serve the people with honor and integrity.


“The sin of Nuezca is not the sin of the entire Philippine National Police. As we have seen during this pandemic, they place their very lives on the line as frontliners in our COVID response,” the statement said.


“Make sure he rots in jail. He’s the last policeman that they need in the force,” – Lacson


Former Chief PNP Panfilo Lacson said that if the video circulating online tell the whole story, he enjoins the PNP to show no mercy.


“If what’s on video tells the whole story, I enjoin the Philippine National Police leadership to show no mercy. They should spare no effort to make sure that he rots in jail. He’s the last policeman that they need in the force,” he said.

The killer's previous cases


Meantime, according to Police Regional Office in Central Luzon, Nuezca faced cases of grave misconduct for homicide in May and December in 2019. However, these have been dismissed due to lack of evidence.


Moreover, in 2016, he faced an admin case for serious neglect of duty, this is becuase he refused to attend a court hearing of a drug case. In 2013, he was also investigated for an administrative case of grave misconduct. These cases also have been dropped and closed.


Additionally, in 2014, another case for less grave neglect of duty for refusing to take a drug test and leaving the testing area without permission. As a result, he was suspended for 31 days.


Also in 2010, he suspended for 10 days.


With several hashtags, the people expressed their fury and rage on social media platforms over the killing of Gregorio mother and son.
