Tabuk City, Kalinga – People in the Cordillera region should not put their jackets away just yet, as the cold weather lingering in the area is expected to last until February 2026, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA’s Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section Chief, Ana Liza Solis, said in an interview with DZMM on January 2 that the country is still experiencing the cold surge brought by the ‘Amihan’, particularly in the mountainous areas of Luzon, including the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

She added that the weather is expected to continue until February, with some parts of the Cordillera predicted to experience temperatures as low as 7.5 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, with temperatures dropping, several vegetable farms in Atok, Benguet have recently been covered in frost due to the ‘Andap’, a common seasonal phenomenon in high-altitude areas such as Atok during the cold months.
