Family of Kalinga student battling kidney failure pleads for any help

A graduating student of Kalinga State University was recently diagnosed with a kidney problem and was taken to a hospital in the province after his body eventually gave in to his condition.

Harold Allit, a fourth-year student of Bachelor of Science in Office Administration, said he wanted nothing other than to finish his remaining year in college, but his simple dream is now hanging by a thread as he battles kidney failure.

According to his family, Harold was rushed to San Juan General Hospital on September 22 after fighting it out and trying to keep with the pace of his studies.

His brother, Warly Allit, said Harold has been restless and unable to sleep, eat, and even walk. In the hospital, they found out that his potassium and calcium levels dropped dramatically.

Harold is still confined at San Juan General Hospital, “madi pay lang nga nakariing, madi pay lang makakuti, oxygen lang iti kasla pagang-angesan na,” Warly described.

Warly added that his brother has monthly check-ups for his kidney problem, and it is only now that his condition worsened.

A hardworking student

Nollie Dangli Jerson, one of Harold’s instructors, said that Harold was still able to enroll this semester. He described him as a student who is determined to finish his studies and that despite his condition, he is also an active officer of their school organization.

“Talaga iman a pursigido suna nga agadal manmano da lang nga lalaki diay klasek ket makitak a determined suna uray gayam madmadi riknana idi ket umay pay kanyak ag-comply. Saan ngay A diay nareklamo nga estudynte ta nu anya ited mo ubraen na ket aramiden na met iman,” Jerson said.

Jerson added that even in the current pandemic, Harold will still hike to the mountain to look for signals in order for him to attend his online classes and in order to do his school requirements.

Meanwhile, Harold’s aunt, Imelda Tanding whom he has been staying with for two months, narrated that Harold often goes to school to process and complete his modules even if he is not feeling well. He was also seen losing his balance, but it seemed like he was resolute in his plan to graduate this academic year.

The family is pleading for any help the people could give to help Harold in this ordeal and give him a ray of hope to go on and finish his dream.

How to help Harold

Harold is from Mallango, Tinglayan, Kalinga and his father is a farmer while his mother is a laborer.

To help his family shoulder Harold’s medical expenses, his classmates at KSU are currently doing a fundraising campaign.
