Benguet, Philippines – The first Altitude Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) World Series – Asia is set to be held in the Philippine’s second-highest mountain, Mount Pulag, in Kabayan, Benguet from March 26 to 27, 2022.

Thumbie Remigio, the Technical Director of Altitude OCR – Asia through PTV-Cordillera, described the place as having a world-class trail with enriched cultural heritage, comparable to other renowned mountains worldwide.

According to Remigio, the event will serve as a qualifying race.

Qualifiers from the 120 registered athletes for Altitude OCR and 150 athletes for trail running will be joining the race in Mt. Toubkal, Morocco from August 15 to 19, 2022.

The World Championship race for the Altitude OCR will be on Mt. Everest, Nepal.

Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation and the Local Government Unit of Kabayan already signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the sports activity that was earlier approved by the Regional Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Department of Tourism – Cordillera.

Kabayan Municipal Mayor Basilio Louie Daoal Jr. said the activity is one way of promoting Mt. Pulag as a tourist destination.

“This is a very good mileage, mileage for mountain sports activities in the Cordilleran region not just in Mt. Pulag, so it will create the interest in our mountains para sa mga mountaineering enthusiasts all over the world,” stated DOT – Cordillera Director Jovi Ganongan.

“Yung services na saan sila matutulog, saan sila kakain, ano ba yung mga other souvenir item siguro na pwedeng mapakinabangan, so it’s really for employment generation din at tsaka creation of livelihood in the communities,” Ganongan added.
