Rizal, Kalinga – To help the families cope with the lockdown imposed from August 6 to 9, the Kalinga Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) with the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) distributed family food packs today, August 13, 2021.

Two barangays in Rizal, Babalag East and Babalag West, were put under mobility restriction due to the surge of Covid-19 cases.

The food packs are seen to help families affected by the order. The relief goods are part of the response and recovery plan of DSWD for affected residents under lockdown.

According to Rizal Municipal Welfare and Development Officer Janet Cosidon, a total of 1,534 affected families were given food packs from DSWD-CAR.

Each pack costs P518.62, containing essential kits, canned goods, and coffee. This is apart from the 21 hygiene kits given to those who were tested COVID-19 positive.

On the part of Kalinga PLGU, PSWDO Rose Maritez Oyawon explained that Barangay Captains Vladimir Jetti G. Lampitoc of Babalag West and Jose Rey Jambaro of Babalag East requested the province’s assistance, which was endorsed by the municipal mayor.

Recognizing the difficulty of the situation being in a lockdown, Governor Ferdinand B. Tubban immediately approved the request.

Oyawon said all families given by DSWD-CAR also received 10 kilos of rice each as aid from the province.

Meanwhile, officers from the region down to the barangay reiterated strict observance of health protocols.

“Su ngarud nga na-lockdown tayo ken adda daytoy assistance gapu ditoy kaadu ti cases ditoy Babalag East and West su suruten tayo ti abiso ti health,” Oyawon appealed.

Beneficiaries likewise received free masks under the “Mask para sa Masa Program” of President Rodrigo Duterte.
