Baguio City, Philippines – Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who leads the ‘Mayors for Good Governance’(M4GG) coalition, has recently been joined by more officials in advocating transparency and accountability in the government, one of them is Former Vice President and now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo.

The M4GG is a coalition of local chief executives in the Philippines which combats corruption and calls for transparency and accountability in the government.

Among its well-known members include Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, whose transparent and anti-corruption leadership and governance inspired many in the country.

In his interview with Jessica Soho aired August 24, Magalong recounted that the M4GG started with only 56 out of more than 1,400 mayors in 2023 before it grew to now around 202.

Magalong said standing up for corruption is a lonely crusade, mentioning that the 202 is just around 11% of the total population of mayors in the country. When asked why there are few LCEs joining the movement, the Mayor answered they are scared of losing funds.

“Bakit ayaw mag-join, isang malaking factor is natatakot sila baka mawalan sila ng tubig sa gripo kasi binabantayan din sila,” he said.

While it was a lonely battle, the M4GG force grows with the addition of new batch of LCEs on August 30 – one of the newly added members is former Vice President and now the City Mayor of Naga Leni Robredo who has long been embodying accountability as the core vision of her leadership.

From her term as congresswoman to Vice President, Robredo made it clear she is firmly against corruption - one of the testaments to this is highest COA Audit for three consecutive years that the the Office of the Vice President under her watch received.

Netizens, after the announcement on August 30, expressed delight with the inclusion of Robredo in the anti-corruption crusade.
