GIVING BACK: Sacpil, Conner among donors helping Tanudan’s recovery following ST Uwan

Tanudan, Kalinga – When a waterborne disease outbreak hit Sacpil, Conner in May 2025, Tanudan was among the first Local Government Units to step up and send aid. Six months later, it was Sacpil’s turn to give back after Tanudan was devastated by Super Typhoon Uwan.

On May 20, 2025, the Tanudan Local Government Unit, led by Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag, sent hundreds of jugs of potable water and crackers to Barangay Sacpil after several individuals experienced diarrhea and other symptoms due to contamination in their local water sources.

Six months later, on November 9, the Municipality of Tanudan faced severe devastation, particularly in its upper barangays, due to the wrath of Super Typhoon Uwan. The typhoon left parts of Tanudan flooded, swept away the Lubo Elementary School, and destroyed farmers’ crops along with other infrastructure.

Responding to the incident, Barangay Sacpil donated ₱15,000 to Tanudan, according to Executive Assistant to the Mayor and Designate Information Officer, John Ryan Awingan. He said the money was personally turned over by Sacpil officials, led by Punong Barangay Tirso Bulayang, to Municipal Administrator Eduardo Bitao in Banagao, Poblacion.

Mayor Dagadag, in a statement, expressed his gratitude to Barangay Sacpil for extending assistance to Tanudan in its recovery efforts, saying, “Agyaman tayo la unay kadagitoy nga kakabsat tayo from Sacpil iti in-donate da kadatayo. Haan datayo met nalipatan; isuda pay mismo ti nangiyumay ditoy ti tulong da idiay Tanudan. Isu nga agyam-yamanak unay kanyada.”
