Tabuk City, Kalinga - The provincial government of Kalinga, through the Office of the Provincial Health Officer, concluded its month-long celebration of the 51st Nutrition Month with a strong call for unity and action in ensuring good nutrition and food security for all residents.

In a culminating program held on Thursday, July 31, officials of the PLGU, seven municipalities, lone city, and various concerned agencies, families, and employees, among others, came together under the theme “Food and Nutrition Security: Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan natin! ” to emphasize the role of nutrition in building a healthy, productive, and resilient community.

Governor James Edduba,  through Atty. Priel Balnao,  emphasized that good health plays an important role in the overall development of individuals and communities.

The governor said that ‘good health begins with good nutrition,’ and poor dietary habits not only lead to sickness but also unproductive work and financial hardship.

“Good health begins with good nutrition, and it is the foundation of a productive and progressive community,” said Edduba, as quoted by the Kalinga Information Office.

The father of the province reiterated his administration’s ongoing support for nutrition and health-related programs under his “LUMIN-AWA” development agenda, with a focus on grassroots implementation and strengthened partnership with various sectors.

Edduba likewise recognized the hard work of the Provincial Nutrition Council, the Barangay Nutrition Scholars, other health workers, and Provincial Nutrition Coordinator Kristal Gial Dacio for championing local nutrition initiatives in the province.

Highlighting this year’s Kalinga celebration of nutrition month were a series of province-wide contests that showcased the creativity, knowledge, and efforts of individuals, schools, and barangays in promoting nutrition awareness.

Among the contests conducted were the nutri-healthy food jingle, nutri-spoken poetry, nutri-poster painting contest, nutri-infographics battle, nutri-healthy recipe cook-off, nutrition quiz bee, nutri-video challenge, nutri-school/barangay garden, and nutri-zumba.

Winners of said competitions were given cash prizes, consolation awards for the other participants, and special awards were also handed out to recognize outstanding community efforts.
