Tabuk City, Kalinga – Governor James Edduba expressed his support and commitment to providing assistance to distressed Kalinga Overseas Filipino Workers caught in the Israel-Hamas war.

Reports by international media on Oct. 11 already put the death toll in the Israeli side to over 1,200 including civilian casualties and over 1,100 deaths in the Palestinian side since Hamas launched an attack at the Gaza border on Oct. 07.

During an interview with Station 1 Radio, Edduba mentioned that before the Hamas “suprise attack” on Israel, he had met with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-Cordillera (OWWA-CAR) Regional Director Martel Dasayon and talked about the welfare of OFWs and plans for an information campaign called "Parokya ng OWWA," aimed at reaching OFWs and their families at the grassroots level to ensure they have access to essential information and assistance.

“We could really work on means like dagitoy scholarship kadagitoy ubbing (dagiti OFWs) and of course kadagitoy livelihood kuma. I-organize tayo dagitoy and we are really doing that,” he said.

In addition to the program, the discussion likewise led to other important topics like addressing the concerns about OFWs who passed away while staying abroad and how the government can assist them, as well as planning for the repatriation of OFWs when the need arises.

Regarding OFWs in Israel, Edduba stated that he is closely monitoring the news to stay informed and be prepared to provide essential assistance in emergency situations, particularly for repatriation.

“Aside from the prayer that we are offering for them, ammok a nga talaga nga very critical ti situation da siyempre being there with nothing that’s permanent, no assurance nu anya man ti problem da idiay,” he stated.

He emphasized that the government is ready to offer support to the families of OFWs back home as well.

“We can assure that if ever nga adda iti kasapulan back home dagitoy pamilya da, we’ll do our best tapnu makatulong met kanyada just to calm them, just to assure them nga dagitoy inbati da ditoy ket they are taken care of by the government… nu anya man ti mabalin tayo nga ma-extend,” he said.
