Balbalan, Kalinga – Operating troops of the Philippine Army’s 50th Infantry Batallion recovered an arms cache containing two firearms and a raincoat on Wednesday, May 25 at Sitio Ligayan, Barangay Balantoy, Balbalan, Kalinga.

The arms cache, according to the 50 IB, is believed to be owned by a member of the Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs).

In a report, 50 IB said that they were conducting a strike operation against the terrorist group when concerned civilians informed them about an arms cache they saw.

With the relayed information, the army group verified it and discovered the arms cache containing an M16 rifle, one Garand Rifle, and a raincoat placed in a storage or the so-called physical base (oblagan) by the communist group.

In a statement, 50IB’s battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Melanio Somera expressed their gratitude to the community of Balantoy in their support of the government’s aim of ending local communist armed conflict in their community.

“Giving information such as this is really a big help to succeed in the campaign against insurgency and eventually achieve inclusive peace and development,” the official added.

Meantime, the recovered firearms are now under the custody of 50IB Headquarters for proper disposition.
