Tabuk City, Kalinga - As the nation celebrates the 123rd Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, Kalinga Provincial Governor Ferdinand B. Tubban challenged the local leaders to set aside personal gains and make the right decision for the benefit of all.

In his message delivered by Provincial Administrator Atty. William Puday, Jr., Tubban pointed out that leaders will either be remembered by the next generation as a good or bad example, depending on how they led their people, advising that they should always choose to do what is right.

Governor Tubban highlighted the lessons learned from the “bittersweet truths of battles and wars” as experienced by the country’s heroes on their years of struggle for independence.

The main lesson, Tubban said, is that “freedom does not come easy and those who want freedom usually pay for it” citing the formation of revolution, anti-colonial secret organization, and the martyrdom of Jose Rizal and death of countless heroes.

The sacrifices of the heroes and their remembrance are historical accounts that ought to be respected and appreciated, Tubban said.

“The way they valued freedom should not diminish or be reduced just because we did not have to fight the wars they fought,” Tubban noted.

The challenge under the threats of COVID-19 virus, the governor said, is “to respond and act with patriotism and with the spirit of kindness to bear one another’s burden until the war against the virus is over.”

Tubban then appealed for cooperation and commitment among the leaders and the public to work and heal as one in the fight against the pandemic for people to feel their freedom once again citing the theme “Diwa sa Pagkakaisa at paghilom ng Bayan.”
