Grenade trap prepared for thieves in Kalinga injured employee

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A hand grenade placed at the inner backdoor of a computer shop in Bulanao, Tabuk City purposely for thieves exploded after an employee attempted to open the shop on Sunday, December 27.


The victim was identified as Allen Chaclag, 39, a native of Mallango, Kalinga and an employee of HED Computer Repair Shop located at Purok 6, Bulanao, Tabuk City owned by REY DOMALLIG y SUGAR, 39.


Tabuk police with EOD bomb squad immediately responded and secured the blast site.


Kalinga Police Provincial Director PCol. Davy Vicente Limmong said that the owner of the computer shop closed the place on December 24 and to protect his shop against thieves, he rigged an Mk2 grenade in the top frame of the inner backdoor.

“Inkabil na jay back door ijay pwesto da tatta kasla iti purpose na ket nu adda sumrek nga agtatakaw masabugan,” he said.


However, this December 27, the owner failed to tell his employee about the grenade when the latter came to get the shop’s key from their house.


“So inala na jay susi jay balay dagiti owner, napan ijay puwesto inlukat na, bigla nga adda sinmabog. So injured isuna, tinawagan na daytoy owner ket tinmaray jay owner, inala na isuna inpan na hospital,” he said.

Limmong said that the case is not related to any terrorism or any other incident. It was only placed as response against thieves. He added that the owner of the computer shop, who is now under the custody of the Tabuk City Police Station was charged with Reckless Imprudence resulting to Serious Physical Injuries.


“Awan connection na [terrorism and others] ... inbaga na met nga awan intention na nga pumatay ngem siyempre nu adda sumrek matay iti kasjay,” Limmong said.


Meantime, the victim is stable at the hospital.
