Cagayan, Philippines – A scorching heat reaching “danger” level is forecast to be felt in two areas in the Province of Cagayan on Monday, May 4, 2026.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), at least 13 places in the country could possibly reach the danger level or heat index ranging from 42°C to 51°C.

Danger level indicates that the combined air temperature and humidity pose a high risk of heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke. With this level, the weather bureau stresses immediate safety measures such as preventing prolonged outdoor exposure and staying hydrated.

Pagasa’s forecast on Sunday mentioned these 13 places include Tuguegarao City and Aparri, Cagayan where both could reach 42°C. In the past years, the two areas recorded high temperatures during the warm season.

The other areas include Sinait, Ilocos Sur which is forecasted to have 43°C heat index, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte – 43°C; MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte – 42°C; Bacnotan, La Union – 43°C; San Ildefonso, Bulacan – 42°C; TAU Camilong, Tarlac – 42°C; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 43°C; Cuyo, Palawan – 42°C; Maasin, Southern Leyte – 42°C; and Davao City, Davao del Sur – 42°C.

Pagasa earlier revealed that the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in the tropical Pacific, which characterized by warmer-than-average sea surface temperature, may persist until the June-July-August 2026 season. Moreover, Pagasa mentioned increasing probability of the El Niño conditions as early as the July-August-September season this year.
