Cagayan, Philippines – Several high-powered firearms were seized during an armed encounter between the government troops and the communist terrorist group in Lal-lo this February 7, just a week after the gunfight incident in Sta. Clara, Gonzaga between the military and rebels.

The 5th Infantry Division informed that the encounter happened in Barangay Dagupan, Lal-lo, when the government troops were conducting intensive focused military operations after the community reported the presence of armed individuals in their area.

The military engaged in said firefight that lasted for 30 minutes against the rebels suspected to be affiliated with the Komiteng Probinsya Cagayan, Komiteng Rehiyon-Cagayan Valley.

After the incident, high-powered firearms were recovered that include 2 pieces of M16 rifles with 3 magazines, 2 M14 rifles with 2 magazines, a piece of M653 rifle, and a piece of Colt 45 with one magazine.

Apart from these, the military was also able to seize anti-personnel mine, several ammunitions, short wire, assorted medical supply, and documents from the encounter site.

Brigadier General Steve Crespillo, 501st Infantry Brigade Commander, expressed that with the strong support of the community in the campaign against terrorism, the government troops will prevent any atrocities planned by the armed group specifically in the upcoming NPA anniversary and 2022 election.

Meantime, Major General Laurence Mina, Commander of 5th Infantry Division, has once again called on the remaining CTGs, saying it is not too late to surrender and have a peaceful life with their loved ones.

“…You choose your fate. Either you come home and be with your family and loved ones, or live your life miserably with the CTGs,” he stated.
