TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Firefighters are trained to confront danger in the physical world, but for FO1 Krishna June Alsiyang, an iKalinga, protecting the public also means being prepared to fight threats in cyberspace.

As the lone representative of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Alsiyang not only carried her agency’s name in a national training program but also emerged as the top performer among 50 participants from government agencies across the country.

She finished Top 1 of Class Maverick 2026-07 in the Cyber Orientation Course conducted by the National Cyber Training Institute, completing the three-month specialized training on October 29, 2026, in Quezon City.

Her achievement came with the responsibility of representing the BFP in a program designed to strengthen the cybersecurity capabilities of public safety and government institutions.

Alsiyang is currently assigned to the Information and Communications Technology Section of the BFP National Headquarters. In an interview with GURU Press Cordillera, she said she was selected to represent the agency to gain specialized knowledge and skills that could help strengthen its cybersecurity efforts and protect it against possible cyber threats, crimes, and data breaches.

The Cyber Orientation Course is a specialized training program of the National Cyber Training Institute, a constituent unit of the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) under the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

It aims to develop participants’ competencies in identifying, managing, and mitigating cybercrime risks while promoting cyber defense and resilience within public safety and government organizations.

At the graduation ceremony on October 29, Alsiyang received medals and certificates in recognition of her outstanding performance and achievement as the class topnotcher.

One of the memorable moments of the occasion was the recognition she received from BFP Acting Director for Operations FSSupt. Jerome Reano, who commended her for bringing honor to the agency.

“Mag-isa mo, nakaka-proud ka, tinaas mo ang BFP iha,” Reano told her.

For Alsiyang, however, the achievement was more than the medals and certificates. It was an opportunity to learn, broaden her knowledge, and become better equipped to serve.

“Thank you Lord for this opportunity to learn, I am forever grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey,” she said.

Alsiyang has shown that public service goes beyond responding to fires and other physical emergencies.

As threats continue to evolve in the digital world, her achievement highlights the importance of government personnel who are willing to learn, adapt, and take the lead in protecting the institutions and communities they serve.
