‘Ipasardeng ko dayta, uray nu haan dak ibotos’ – Mayor Dagadag tells illegal loggers

Tanudan, Kalinga – Mayor Jaedicke Ross Dagadag said he is determined to intensify the campaign against illegal logging in Tanudan saying, “talaga a pasardengek dayta, uray nu diay kunkunada kanyak a haan mi sika ibotos.”

Dagadag gave this stern warning, after authorities confiscated several illegal lumbers in Gumbo-oy, Pangol on August 19. The total amount of the confiscated lumbers has yet to be determined as of this writing.

The mayor disclosed that there were instances where individuals buy forest areas in Tanudan to cut down its trees and sell them outside the municipality. He said that this illegal activity must be stopped and strictly implement and intensify the campaign to protect the forest areas of Tanudan.

“Strict-tuan tayo, inbagak ken dagidiay taga-DENR nga strict-tuan da dagita Bantay Gubat,” he added.

Dagadag further said that illegal loggers even tried to buy him off, in order to allow them to export illegal lumbers from Tanudan, but as a response, he coordinated with the DENR, AFP, and PNP to intercept the transport of said contraband.

Meanwhile, Dagadag appealed to the public and to illegal loggers to stop cutting down trees since said environmental degradation could result to disastrous calamity.

He cited the two mountains in Dacalan that collapsed even though there was no illegal activity in the area.

“Diay tu pay haan a malog-logging ket ag-landslide lattan, how much more diay makalbuan a bantay?” Dagadag stressed.

“Dapat isardeng dan daytan [illegal logging] ta ammu tayo met diay epekto na dayta. Okay lang nu diay pang balay a kayo, ngem nu dayta pang lako a thousand thousand a board feet ti mapan mo pukanen ket sabali daytan a tungtungan,” he underscored.
