Ilagan City, Isabela – A dispute reportedly triggered by a misunderstanding over a Wi-Fi connection turned fatal on Wednesday evening, June 3, after a 51-year-old farmer was stabbed to death by his neighbor in Ilagan City, Isabela.

The victim, identified by police under the pseudonym “Bert,” was a resident of Barangay Bangag, Ilagan City.

The suspect, meanwhile, was identified as “Tomas,” a 37-year-old construction worker and neighbor of the victim.

According to initial findings of the Ilagan Component City Police Station (CCPS), as cited by local media reports, Tomas had just come from a farm where he had gone to water his cow when he allegedly heard a heated argument between his wife and Bert while heading home.

Police said the altercation stemmed from a misunderstanding involving a Wi-Fi connection.

Upon entering his house, Tomas reportedly encountered Bert. During the confrontation, Bert allegedly threatened him and appeared ready to strike him with a metal pipe.

Authorities said Tomas then allegedly drew a bolo measuring about 12 inches long and stabbed Bert three times in different parts of the body.

The injured farmer was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Following the incident, Tomas reportedly went to his aunt’s house, where he waited for barangay officials. He later voluntarily surrendered to authorities and was taken into police custody.

The suspect is now facing a homicide charge.

As of this writing, police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the sequence of events and establish all the facts of the case.

Authorities remind the public that the allegations against the suspect remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
