Baguio City, Philippines – A 57-year-old security guard was found dead inside his rented room in a boarding house along Kalapati Street Extension, Dizon-Manzanillo Subdivision, Baguio City, on July 21, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the cause of his death.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released by the police, was discovered after a neighbor noticed a foul odor coming from his room and alerted authorities.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim worked as a security guard at a pawnshop in La Trinidad, Benguet, and lived alone in the boarding house.

According to neighbors, he had been renting the room for about six months.

Residents also recalled that the victim was often seen drinking alcohol and occasionally coughing. However, police have not confirmed whether he had any existing illness or medical condition that may have contributed to his death.

A follow-up police report said the victim's relatives in Ilocos had already been informed of his death through a phone call.

As of this writing, authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the victim's death.

The said incident comes just weeks after another unattended death was reported in Baguio City. On July 6, a 54-year-old janitor was found dead in a canal beside his barracks at Pinsao Pilot Elementary School.

The victim, who also worked as a stay-in maintenance worker at the school, was discovered by a security guard after he failed to report for work.

Initial investigation suggested that he may have accidentally slipped or fallen while descending the stairs leading to his barracks, although authorities continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
