Isabela soldier killed in Kalinga by lightning bolt laid to rest

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Corporal Andrew Monterubio, one of the two soldiers who were struck by a lightning bolt in Kalinga, was brought to his resting place this Tuesday, May 21, 2024.


The fallen soldier who came from Gamu, Isabela along with Private First Class Inmongog Aronchay of Sadanga, Mt. Province was part of the team conducting a security operation against the communist terrorist groups at the boundary of Western Uma, Lubuagan and Balatoc, Pasil on May 12.


While in the middle of the operation, a bolt of lightning struck the troops, killing Monterubio and Aronchay while injuring four others from the team.


Nine days after the incident, the 5th Infantry Division together with Monterubio’s family and the public paid their last respects to the fallen hero.


A funeral mass was held for him at 8:00 in the morning at the St. Rose Gamu Parish Church before he was brought to his final resting place at the Gamu Cemetery.


Monterubio was 30 years old.
