Tabuk City, Kalinga - Kalinga-Apayao Electric Cooperative (KAELCO) argued that the sudden rise in electric bills of the member-consumers in the city is due to the increase of electricity consumption.

This is according to KAELCO as response on the issues of electric bills hike raised by the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod during the regular session of the august body held on July 01.

Representative from KAELCO clarified that there is a significant increase for about 20% on the consumption of electricity for the month of June compared to the previous months. Added to that, he said that the forced outage of the four major power plants of the Luzon grid caused the reduced energy supply to the affected areas.

“Diyay kanayon tayo nga panagusar particularly diyay cooling system tayo which usually during cold months haan tayo unay us usaren. Though, during the hot weather months, na-extend iti panag usar tayo iti kadagitoy nga appliances,” stated Engr. Leonardo Egcatan, who represented KAELCO.

“Diyay increase in electricity rate, ti status ti Luzon grid kadagiyay is on red alert. Adda gamin ti uppat a major power plants nga nag-forced outage or haan nga agop-operate, unplanned suna nga na shutdown, diyay effect na ti supply ti Luzon bimmassit,” he added.

He mentioned that these major reasons have consequently elevated the supply and demand because of price hike in the cost of electricity.

“Whereas diyay makunkuna a law of supply and demand, prices definitely increases. Nu makita tayo diyay statement of accounts a ma-res-receive tayo ti binulan, the first two items ti usually nga monthly nga ag either ag-increase or ag-decrease,” KAELCO further explained.

However, after several minutes of discussion, the august body intends to further understand and seeks for clarification on the issues regarding the increase in electricity bills.

Meantime, the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod have decided to ask for the presence of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), KAELCO Chairman of the Board of Directors, and representative from the consumers in the next session.
