Kalinga Agriculture Services assists 20,554 yKalinga farmers in 2020

Tabuk City, Kalinga- Around 20,554 farmers from the different municipalities were among those who benefitted from the various government services delivered through the Provincial Agricultural Services (OPAS) last year.


This is despite the quarantine limitations due to the COVID 19 pandemic and typhoons that hit the country during the period.


The Provincial Information Office reports that a total of P158.96M was utilized by OPAS from the funds of the Department of Agriculture - Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) for various agricultural -related projects in the province.

Aside from the financial and loan assistance, rice farmers also benefitted from the 45,000 packs of high-yielding seeds that were accordingly distributed.


Out of the quoted amount, P37.208M financial support was invested on farm machinery and equipment which were awarded to various farm organizations and barangay local government units in the province, while some were utilized for Rice, Corn, and High-Value Crop Development Programs.

Apart from the aforementioned accomplishments, OPAS was also recognized for initiating the improvement of the Bado Dangwa-Guilayon FMR setting a record as the fastest implemented Philippine Rural Development Program (PRDP), I-BUILD sub-project nationwide having it completed 5 months and 29 days ahead of the target date.


Accordingly, OPAS had completed five Farm to Market Roads which were approved I-BUILD subprojects under the PRDP since 2018: Banneng-Gombowoy FMR, Bulanao-Amlao FMR, Catabbogan-Wagud FMR, Bado Dangwa-Guilayon FMR, and Banneng-Darulog-Bawac FMR.


Said office is now giving focus to delivering programs to help farmers cope with the with crisis brough about by the current pandemic.
