Kalinga commended by Baguio City officials for setting 2 world records

Baguio City, Philippines – The Province of Kalinga was commended by the City of Baguio for bringing pride and prestige in the Cordillera region after setting two Guinness World Records.


An adjudicator from the Guinness World Records conferred Kalinga the ‘Largest Gong Ensemble’ and ‘Largest Banga Dance’ during the province’s Awong Chi Gangsa, Agtu'n Chi Banga on February 15, 2023.

Kalinga bagged the titles after 3,440 men coming from the different municipalities and city simultaneously played the gong for five minutes while 4,681 women performed the banga dance for another five minutes. The latter were certified with high proficiency.


Through a resolution, the officialdom of Baguio City lauded Kalinga for setting and breaking two world records.


According to the Baguio City Public Information Office, the city recognized Kalinga’s verdant desire to land in history books, braving the rain on the day of their performance. They cited the province made the Cordillerans proud.


The Awong Chi Gangsa, Agtun Chi Banga was among the highlights of the 28th Kalinga Founding Anniversary celebration and the 4th Bodong Festival.
