Tabuk City, Kalinga – An avid supporter of the arts, Board Member Christopher Donaal lauded those behind the establishment of the first formal art gallery and exhibition space in Kalinga, emphasizing that the venue represents a fresh beginning for the province’s artistic community.

The art gallery, located at Aki’s Café Gallery in Bulanao, Tabuk City, officially opened on February 9, 2026. The event was attended by Governor James Edduba, DTI officials, and Board Members Christopher Dona-al and Camilo Lammawin Jr., along with other key local leaders.

The gallery’s inaugural exhibition, “RUGI: First Ground,” features paintings, sculptures, woven textiles, pottery, mixed media, and installation works by artists from various provinces across the Cordillera region.

Proprietors Cesar and Maxie Capuyan shared that the gallery was inspired by their niece, Windy Capuyan, who proposed the idea to create a dedicated space where Cordilleran artists can promote their work and gain greater exposure to the public and cultural institutions.

Recognizing the absence of formal art exhibition spaces in Kalinga, the Capuyan couple embraced the concept and named the gallery “Rugi,” the Ilocano word for “beginning.”

In his message during the opening, Dona-al commended the family’s initiative and praised the artists for showcasing their talent, noting that the gallery serves not only as a physical venue but also as a foundation for strengthening Kalinga’s art community.

“Congratulations to the Capuyan family for establishing this gallery, and to the artists as well. We still have much to develop in the arts, and I hope this will mark a strong start for quality artworks in Kalinga,” Donaal said.

The gallery is located beside Bon Chon in Purok 7, Bulanao, and is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Provincial Government of Kalinga, led by Governor James Edduba, invites the public to visit the gallery and experience the creativity and talent of Cordilleran artists.
