Kalinga PLGU, DOLE hire 100 students to work under SPES

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The provincial government of Kalinga and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) hired 100 students to work during their school break under Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).


The SPES of DOLE, as mandated under Republic Act 9547, aims to “help poor but deserving students pursue their education by encouraging their employment during summer and Christmas vacations through incentives granted to employers.”

In addition, capacities and potentials of children of poor families, including drop-outs, are to be developed and harnessed.


Kalinga PLGU through its Public Employment Service Office, along with DOLE – Kalinga facilitated an orientation for the selected student-recipients last week at the 3rd Floor Enterprise Building in the Provincial Capitol.


The students gathered and were provided with the guidelines and necessary information for their employment such as work etiquette, professional interaction with clients, among others.


For a 20-day working period, the grantees will work at their assigned offices within the locality and are expected to be engaged in productive work.

Each recipient will receive a total of P10,241 after working period, of wich 60 percent will be shouldered by the provincial government, while DOLE – Kalinga will provide the remaining 40 percent.


In his talk during the orientation, as told by his office’s information office, Gov. James Edduba related his experiences when he was yet studying. He himself had to take jobs during his summer breaks to earn for his studies. He then encouraged the students to immerse themselves in their respective community for their personal development.


Meanwhile, Avelina Manganip of DOLE – Kalinga enjoined the students to explore and learn throughout the program.


Also present during the activity were Vice Gov. Jocel Baac, Pastor Benjamin Paycoan, Ferdie Vidad who represented Remily Battikin of PGADH-OPHRMO, designated focal person for SPES - Anthony Luminang, among others.
