Tabuk City, Kalinga – The provincial government headed by Governor Ferdinand Tubban prepared rescue measures for possible effects of Tropical Storms ‘Maring’ and ‘Nando’, as well as basic needs, in case residents will suffer landslide or flooding.

As of this writing, the latest tropical cyclone bulletin released by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) labelled the province under Tropical Storm Wind Signal No. 2.

With the warning, a Management Committee (ManCom) meeting was conducted earlier today with the governor deciding to ‘heighten the Alert Level of the Province into RED Alert Status following the Operation Listo response.’

Family food packs for affected families ready

In a press release of the Provincial Information Office, a total of 3,000 family food packs, 163 hygiene kits, 172 family kits, 121 sleeping kits, and 114 kitchen kits were prepared by the Provincial Social and Welfare Development (SWAD) Office.

Meanwhile, 379 hygienic kits and 41 family packs are also arranged by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) for distribution of those who might evacuate.

The Provincial Evacuation Center at the Capitol Hills was also prepared ‘for pre-emptive evacuees.’

The Information Office further reported that ‘heavy equipment from DPWH - Upper and Lower Kalinga Field Office is now on standby in case there is a soil erosion on the access roads.’

Search, Rescue and Retrieval Team from BFP, PNP, LDRRMO's, DILG and AFP are also on standby.

Meantime, to prevent untoward events that may arise from distribution to collection of modules as well as possible power outages which could disrupt online classes, Governor Tubban through Executive Order 2021-35 suspended classes in pre-school, kindergarten, elementary and secondary levels in all public and private education institutions.

The suspension remains or changes until after the storm abates or is lifted by the Office of the Governor.

Tubban, in a message, likewise asked for cooperation among the community.

In case of emergency, call PDRRMC Hotline: 09171797529.
