Tabuk City, Kalinga — With its aging X-ray machine frequently breaking down, the Kalinga Provincial Hospital (KPH) will soon acquire a new stationary X-ray unit worth ₱9.8 million, promising more efficient and accurate diagnostic imaging to meet the province’s growing demand for radiology services.

According to KPH Chief of Hospital Dr. Reynaldo Aranca, the proposed new X-ray unit will replace the facility’s decades-old machine that often malfunctions, forcing patients to seek diagnostic services from other hospitals.

In support of the hospital’s initiative, Governor James Edduba said he had requested the Local Finance Committee of the Kalinga Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) to find ways to fund the project. As a result, a budget for the purchase was included in the province’s Supplemental Budget No. 2, which also covers allocations for hospital improvements, personnel salaries, and facility upgrades.

“Tatta, agpakpakaasi ak kadagiti local finance committee ta agbirok da ti pondo tapnu gumatang tayo—maka-purchase tayo ti maysa nga X-ray. Anytime kuma … as soon as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan will sign our Supplemental Budget No. 2,” Governor Edduba said.

The governor added that the provincial government intends to procure a high-technology and branded stationary X-ray machine to ensure longer service life and better performance. The acquisition will proceed once the Sangguniang Panlalawigan approves the supplemental budget.

Meanwhile, KPH Supervising Administrative Officer Raymond Palicas shared that the hospital’s current 500 MB stationary X-ray machine has exceeded its 21-year life expectancy, making its replacement critical for maintaining KPH’s license to operate — as the equipment is a mandatory requirement for a Level 1 hospital.

“Nadanun na metten diay life expectancy of more than 21 years old daytoy current nga X-ray. Actually, the 500 MB X-ray machine is a mandatory machine that should be available for a Level 1 hospital like KPH. So didiay ti maysa nga i-advocate ni Governor kasi nu awan dayta, maka-affect suna ti license to operate ti hospital,” Palicas said.

Once installed, the new X-ray machine is expected to enhance diagnostic accuracy, expedite patient care, and increase KPH’s capacity to handle more medical cases — strengthening the province’s healthcare system as a whole.
