Over P2M livelihood assistance granted to 3 new SAAD extension barangays in Kalinga

Updated: Jul 30, 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga – To provide additional source of income while sustaining farmer’s production and to ensure food security in the province, P2,065,200 worth of livelihood interventions were given to three new extension barangays under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program from July 21 to 22, 2021.

Recipient barangays are San Quintin in Rizal, Barangay Lay-asan in Tanudan, and Barangay Mabaca in Balbalan. They were provided a total of 2,618 head pulets, 402 bags poultry feeds, and 80 sachets pechay seeds.

Of the total recipients, 70 beneficiaries in San Quintin, Rizal, were granted 910 head pullets, in which, 13 pullets were received each by the farmers.

The 121 recipients in Lay-asan, Tanudan, received 668 head pullets and 242 bags layer feeds were provided, where each received at least 5 pullets accompanied with 2 bags of feeds.

105 farmers in Mabaca, Balbalan, on the other hand, were granted 1,040 head pullets, 160 bags grower feeds, and 80 sachets pechay seeds. SAAD-Kalinga said each will get at least 10 pullets, 1.5 bags of feeds, and pechay seeds.

SAAD-Kalinga, in a report, said the projects support the free-range chicken and vegetable production sub-project awarded to the barangays.

This is part of the continuous implementation of the SAAD program in the province, a locally-funded program of the Department of Agriculture which started in 2017 that provides livelihood among the marginalized sectors in Agriculture and Fishery.

During the distribution in Rizal, Assistant Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer Dr. Raponcel Saguilot of DA- Kalinga explained that the pullets given will only serve as capital for the beneficiaries, hoping that these will flourish and eventually become poultry enterprise afterwards.

“Daytoy ket puonan lang nga ited ti DA-SAAD so dapat a paadwen hanggang maging enterprise hopefully ken counterpart ti beneficiary nga anusan a gatangan ti feeds tapnu agitlog da,” she said.

As recalled, 14 barangays have been added to the 19 previously SAAD program-benefiting communities in the province, in which, P48 million had been budgeted, for the program to continue this year.
