Kalinga Tourist Spots remain closed until end of year


Tabuk City, Kalinga-The Tourism Offices in Kalinga agreed on Monday, June 7, that all local and cultural sites remain closed for this entire year to ensure the protection of the peoples’ health and safety against COVID-19.


The matter on local tourism opening was part of the agenda of the provincial, municipal, and city offices during their Second Quarter Meeting held at Akami Hall, King Square, Davidson Hotel, Bulanao, Tabuk City.

Provincial Tourism Officer Lorraine Ngao-i said the closure is in accordance to the standing Executive Orders issued by the Local Chief Executives and most recent directive issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) prohibiting leisure travels, entertainment activities, sporting events, and other types of gatherings.


The tourism officer noted that the prevention of the tourists’ entries contributed in mitigating COVID-19 cases in Kalinga.


Ngao-i added that if majority of the people are vaccinated by next year, then opening of the tourism activities will be considered.



The Provincial Tourism Officer also appealed for the cooperation of the public, reiterating the importance of life before leisure.


Ngao-i as well reminded that tourism activities in Buscalan, Tinglayan are still suspended. As recalled, the office warned an organizer offering package tours on social media.


The Local Government Unit of Tinglayan through Municipal Mayor Sacramento Gumilab made an agreement with Barangay Buscalan that they will first establish a waste management and an isolation unit, renew IDs of tourism workers and at least vaccinate 70% of the population, before they could open the village to tourists.
