Kalinga under critical risk code: What does this mean?

Updated: Jan 22, 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Due to the rapid increase of Covid-19 confirmed positive cases in the province for the first two weeks of 2021, Kalinga is now categorized under the critical risk code.

Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit Coordinator Jose Pardito Jr., in an interview, explained that the growth rate within the two weeks reached 307%. Growth rate of active cases forms the basis for assessing the level of risk in a particular area.

“Naabot tayo iti critical code kasi within 2 weeks, nagpaspas iti increase tayo. Jay growth rate tayo iti 2 weeks ket nag 307 [percent] iti increase tayo, so nagdakkel,” he said.

Pardito said that in getting the two weeks growth rate, the present case shall be subtracted from the cases recorded from the previous 2 weeks. The difference will be divided by the previous cases then multiplied to 100.

Meantime, during the Provincial Inter Agency Task Force meeting this January 20, the Provincial Epidemiological Services Unit reported that the average daily attack rate is 11.48/100,000 population. Moreover, the incidence rate is 449.082/100,000 population.

January, month with highest Covid-19 cases in Kalinga

Pardito said that since June, the month when Kalinga recorded its 1st confirmed Covid-19 case, January has the most number of cases, and the month is not over yet.

“... talaga nga January ti talaga nga worst, isu iti kangatwan,” he said.

“Awan dapat na talaga ket disiplina iti kasapulan, displina disiplina iti kanayun ko nga [ibaga]... nu kuna kuma iti gobyerno nga awan iti rumwar, haan tayo kuma nga rumrumwar nu haan nga necessary,” he added.

Additionally, according to Pardito cases of community transmission is now higher compared to cases from Locally Stranded Individuals. Most of the infected people, he said, are adults.

Meanwhile, as of January 20, Kalinga is number 3 nationwide in most number of cases recorded that day.
