Lasam, Cagayan Municipal Administrator shot dead

Cagayan, Philippines – Municipal Administrator of Lasam was shot dead by unidentified men early morning of November 29 along the National Highway in Callao Norte.

According to the report of Cagayan Provincial Information Office, the victim was identified as Benjamin Augustus Agatep, 55 years old and a resident of Barangay Callao Sur.

Agatep was found lifeless and was covered with his own blood after the Philippine National Police – Lasam responded to a report from a concerned citizen pass 5:00 in the morning about a body lying in a pool of blood on the road.

An initial investigation showed that Agatep was riding his bicycle when a riding in tandem shot him dead. Investigation is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Local Government Unit of LASAM, through their Facebook page, expressed outrage on the shooting incident.

“... we, as a community and as individuals have witnessed so much anger and pain sparked by the senseless killing of our Municipal Administrator Benjamin AF Agatep. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and relatives. May they feel the love and support of so many people outraged by this tragic death. We join as one with his family to remember him by committing ourselves to the struggle for justice and in a NON-VIOLENT WAY,” the post reads.

The LGU added, “the tragic and painful event of this day ... challenge us all TO ACT AS ONE to bring dignity, peace and justice to him.”
