Baguio City, Philippines— Mayor Benjamin Magalong, during a recent talk on Monday, urged the public not to allow corrupt politicians to destroy the good governance image of Baguio.

Magalong proudly shared that Baguio is now being recognized as a benchmark of good and effective governance in the country. With that, he reminded the people to remain vigilant against corrupt practices and to uphold the city’s reputation.

“I just would like to remind you that Baguio City is becoming a model of good governance in the entire country…let us not allow corrupt politicians, extortionist politicians, magnanakaw na politicians…at mga sinungaling na politiko na sirain and reputation na yan,” said Magalong.

The mayor also addressed the rise of dirty tactics during the last election. Among those he mentioned, which, according to him, was the first time it happened in Baguio, was the spreading of lies against other candidates and politicians distributing large amounts of money, trying to buy votes.

“First time in the history of Baguio City na bumaha ang pera.First time na sobrang kasinungalingan ang ikinalat led by these corrupt politicians… to destroy the reputation of a candidate… are we going to allow that to happen again in the city?,” Magalong retorted.

The re-elected mayor praised the people of Baguio for standing firm with the truth and not allowing themselves to be fooled. He said many voters showed courage by rejecting lies and choosing honesty and integrity over dirty politics.

Magalong ended his message by assuring his constituents that his administration will continue to fight for what is right and work hard to maintain the good image of the city.

“At the end of the day, that is the truth that your mayor and the rest of the good governance politicians are here to make sure that we maintain and sustain this good governance reputation of the city of Baguio,” he concluded.
