Lubuagan political candidates unite for peaceful May 2022 elections

Lubuagan, Kalinga – Lubuagan political candidates vying for elective positions in this coming election did a unity walk and pledged for a peaceful May 9, 2022 poll.


Eighteen of the candidates made it to the event this March 30, 2022 in Barangay Poblacion while one was not able to attend due to confinement at the hospital.

In an interview with Jessica Ameling, Non-Uniformed personnel at the Lubuagan Municipal Police Station, she narrated that the candidates joined the unity walk around Poblacion, Lubuagan.


After walking around the town, the 18 aspirants proceeded to the Lubuagan Eco Tourism Gymnasium for the interfaith prayer led by the different religious representatives.


Ameling also mentioned that Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus gave each candidate time to talk during the event.


“Originally da mayor ken ni Election Officer Angelita Dimas lang kuma iti ag-message and then in-suggest ni mayor nga ikkan iti mabiit a time nga agsao amin dagidiay local candidates,” she narrated.

The 18 who are aspiring for office in the next 3 years also took the pledge for SAFE 2022, which was administered by Police Lieutenant Edmundo Bawalan, Lubuagan Deputy Chief of Police. This was followed by the signing of a peace covenant, which signifies that the candidates are going to take part in keeping a peaceful conduct of elections by abiding with the rules and regulations of the Commission on Elections.


It could be recalled that Lubuagan was placed under the red category or area of grave concern due to election related incidents in the past elections.

With this, the COMELEC, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Department of the Interior and Local Government and other concerned agencies have been coordinating and holding weekly meetings to ensure a peaceful poll in Lubuagan.
